About
Clarelynn Rose
In 1999, Claralynn "Clare" Nunamaker established Heartwood Music and began to perform under the name Clarelynn Rose. At that time
she was working full time as a Registered Professional Forester in Mendocino County, California, specializing in forestry education and
stewardship forestry. Her consulting contracts included work with SmartWood as well
as with small and not-so-small landowners in Mendocino County, creating management and stewardship plans for
individual properties. These plans aimed to help the landowner develop a better
idea of the resources on their property and how to manage those resources to achieve their specific management goals.
In an effort to increase the general level of awareness and knowledge of forestry and natural resource management, Clare
authors a newspaper column on forestry issues. The column,
Tree Tips &
Forest Facts, began running in 1998 in the Mendocino County Observer, and it has since been picked up by several northern California
newspapers and radio stations. Clare currently writes the column monthly, with other members of the "Tree Tips team" covering three
weeks per month.
Formerly Chair of the Northern California Society of American Foresters (NorCal SAF), a board member for the Redwood
Outdoor Education Project, board member of the
Mendocino County Fire Safe Council, and coordinator for the Forestry Institute for Teachers, Clare is currently taking a break from
active forestry work. While living in Scotland under a composers visa she remains a member of the Forest Stewards Guild and NorCal
SAF. She also maintains a position on the board of the Research Center for Women and Natural Resources Management of
Zhejiang Forestry University in China.
A private consulting forester since 1995, Clare has worked in China and throughout northern California and Oregon, working
on holdings from 10 to 5,000 acres. She earned M.S. degrees in Forestry and Environmental Engineering from Humboldt State University,
having completed thesis research on forest and tree management in China.
